OXFORD, Miss. - Sophomore right-hander Rory McKean of the Ole Miss baseball team was named to the 2008 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the league office announced on Monday.

The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 20 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to her community in superior service efforts.

McKean was one of 12 athletes honored for their contributions to the Oxford and Ole Miss Community. The Montgomery, Ala., also has participated in community service opportunities in the Memphis and Jackson area.

The sophomore is active in the Reading With the Rebels program that encourages reading at local elementary schools and helped spearhead efforts to supply local food banks through the Southeastern Conference Canned Food Drive. McKean also participates in the annual Bats and Balls baseball camps in Oxford.

McKean has also been active in other outlets, making visits with the Ole Miss baseball team to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis.

He is also the incoming president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee on campus at Ole Miss.
