Rebels Split Doubleheader With La Tech

Alise Doubt reached on an infield single with nobody on and two down in the top of the fifth in the second game. She moved to second on a wild pitch by Lady Techster pitcher Meghan Krieg and scored on Lauren Grill’s single through the left side of the infield to give the Rebels a 1-0 lead. Grill finished the game 2-for-3 with two singles, a walk and one RBI.
The Rebels (26-27) added two more runs in the sixth on Michelle May’s pinch-hit two-RBI single up the middle. May knocked in Lauren Rowe, who walked, and Ashley Dowdy, who doubled to center earlier in the inning.
Becky Nye (12-10) started and picked up the win for Ole Miss. She gave up no runs on two hits in 4.0 innings of work. She struck out four and issued only one walk. Tara Willitt entered in the fifth and pitched the final 3.0 innings. She allowed only one hit and struck out three, while walking none.
Krieg (6-3) suffered the loss for La Tech (31-27) after pitching 5.0 innings. She gave up three runs on four hits and struck out eight.

Game One
Kylie Bassett hit a sac fly in the bottom of the eighth inning, as the Ole Miss Rebels dropped game one of the doubleheader by a score of 5-4 to Louisiana Tech.
In the La Tech eighth, Amberly Watts started the inning on second in accordance with the international tie-breaker rule and moved to third on a sac bunt by Regan Clark. Bassett then hit a sac fly to left field to score the game-winning run.
Lauren Grill led off the game with an infield single for Ole Miss and moved to second on an Alyssa McGovern sac bunt. Lisa Conchos then drilled a homer to left field to give the Rebels a 2-0 lead. The blast was
Rebel starting pitcher Lindsey Perry walked Danielle Sheridan with one out in the Louisiana Tech first, then Amberly Watts doubled to left center to give the Lady Techsters runners on second and third. Perry walked Regan Clark to load the bases before being replaced by Tara Willitt. Kyle Bassett reached on a fielder’s choice to drive in Louisiana Tech’s first run. Willitt struck out Krissi Oliver for the second out, but Jessica Kirby hit a bases-clearing double to left center to give La Tech a 4-2 lead after one.
Grill answered for the Rebels with a solo home run to lead off the Ole Miss third. It was Grill’s 12th homer of the season and pulled the Rebels to within 4-3. McGovern reached on a fielding error by La Tech shortstop Amberly Watts later in the inning and moved to second on a sac bunt. McGovern then moved to third with two down on an arrant throw by the catcher and scored on Lauren Rowe’s single right to tie the game.
Grill finished the game a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with three singles and a home run. She also scored twice and knocked in a run. Rowe also added two singles in four at-bats.
Louisiana Tech led off the bottom of the third with back-to-back singles from Clark and Bassett, before Willitt settled in and retired the side on two strikeouts and a ground out.
Willitt pitched 3.2 innings before being replaced by Becky Nye to start the fifth inning. Willitt allowed one run on four hits, while striking out four. Nye (11-10) suffered the loss after pitching the final 3.2 innings. She struck out five and only allowed one hit.
Oliver (16-13) picked up the win for La Tech. She pitched 8.0 innings and allowed four runs on nine hits.
