7/22/2008 | Track and Field

TOLUCA, Mexico Ole Miss standout Kenyata Coleman won a silver medal in the 4x400 meter relay while representing the United States at the North America, Central America and Caribbean Under-23 Championships last weekend at Toluca Stadium in Toluca, Mexico.

Coleman, along with teammates Brandi Cross, Danielle Brown and Nicole Leach, finished in second place in the event with a time of 3:28.25.  Jamaica claimed the gold medal with a time of 3:27.46.

“I really wanted to win the gold medal because we were competing for the United States, and the USA is top competitive country in the world,” Coleman said.  “We faced some really great competition because Jamaica had three Olympians on its relay team.  Even though we didn’t finish in first, it was still great knowing that we ran a 3:28 and they were not that far ahead with a 3:27.  Overall, I ended my season with a bang.”

The NACAC Athletic Association's U23 Championships are held every two years in one of the 32 member nations of the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association, one of six regional athletics associations affiliated with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
