Ole Miss coaches and players greeted fans and signed autographs for a crowd of approximately 4,000 in the Indoor Practice Facility, before taking to the field for a scrimmage inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
“We gave our second team a lot of work today”, said head coach Houston Nutt. “So far we have had a really good camp, but now we have to turn that corner as we get ready for
Cordera Eason highlighted the opening offensive series of the scrimmage with a 27-yard touchdown run and later tore off a 30-yard run before giving way to the other running backs.
“He has taken off right where he left off,” Nutt said of the junior tailback. “I have admired his toughness and his work ethic. He knew the three freshman backs were very talented, but I have been proud of the way he has been very steady.”
Freshman running back Devin Thomas received some reps with the first team offensive unit and capped his night with a six-yard TD run.
“He has worked himself and he is deserving of working with the first team offensive line,” Nutt said. “We are going to watch him on film tonight, but I have been really proud of how far he has come.”
Freshman Nathan Stanley tossed a 33-yard touchdown strike to freshman E.J. Epperson and later found freshman Andrew Harris across the middle for a 16-yard completion during the scrimmage.
“He has a lot of potential,” Nutt said. “If he can get it all together, the clock and the signals, he can throw it. If Kent Austin was out in the huddle with him he would be great, but it doesn’t work that way. The game moves fast, but once he is out there he can spin that ball pretty good.”
The Rebels open the 2008 season on Aug. 30, at home against
