Wide Receivers Shine In Rebels? Second Fall Practice
8/5/2008 | Football
“We talked ugly to them last night and this morning and they came back and responded today,” Nutt said. “The film doesn’t lie, and I thought that the guys did an outstanding job of catching passes today.” Nutt expressed how pleased he was with the way the overall effort had improved from Monday when the Rebels kicked off fall practice. “I’m really proud of the back-to-back practices,” Nutt said. “Tomorrow we’re going to come out in shoulder pads and have a little bit more physical practice. That’s where you really find out who can fight through. We’re asking them to lead, follow or get out of the way. That’s kind of been our theme for the day, and they did a good job today. Overall, not bad.” Nutt was also impressed with the way the offensive line protected Rebel sophomore quarterback Jevan Snead. “Tyrone (Nix) was mixing in a lot of different blitzes today and they have a lot of speed on the defensive side of the ball,” Nutt said. “Tyrone jumped on us real good yesterday and caused a lot of confusion, which is why we had picks, interceptions and turnovers. Today we didn’t have that and that was a positive.” Nutt was complimentary on his kicking game and particularly with the punting game. “Josh (Shene) is still doing well and our deep snapping is solid, but we have to get our punters to be more consistent and quicker when getting the ball off. They were much better today than yesterday.” Ole Miss will hold its third practice of the fall Wednesday afternoon at approximately 5:30 p.m. on the practice fields adjacent to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.Practice is open to the public through the remainder of the week. The Rebels open the 2008 season against the Memphis Tigers on August 30th at 6:00 p.m. in
