Rebels Turn In Solid Showing At Kentucky Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. Ole Miss senior Wale Odetunde turned in an NCAA provisional mark in the triple jump and recorded one of the Rebels' 11 top-10 finishes Saturday afternoon at the Kentucky Invitational.
Odetunde leaped a distance of 50-08.00 in the triple jump on his way to a second place finish in the event. Freshman Caleb Lee posted a seventh place finish in the event with a mark of 48-04.00.
Also in field events, senior Derek McGuire turned in a distance of 55-11.75 in the shot put en route to a ninth place finish.
Junior Gabriel Ngwiri highlighted competition for the Rebels in running events as he finished in fourth place in the mile run with a time of 4:13.01.
On the women's side, sophomore LaJada Baldwin posted a third place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 23.96. Baldwin also raced to a ninth place finish in the 60 meters with a mark of 7.54.
Sophomore Sofie Persson finished in second place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:11.36, while Britney Barnard was close behind in seventh place with her time of 2:14.04.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team recorded a time of 3:44.93 and finished in fourth place in the event.
Sophomore Juliana Smith placed fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 57-05.00, while fellow sophomore Betty Williams earned an 11th place finish with her distance of 52-05.25. Williams went on to claim an eighth place finish in the shot put by recording the second furthest distance in school history with a mark of 47-05.75.
Ole Miss returns to action Jan. 30-31 when the Rebels travel to College Station, Texas to take part in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
