Rebels Conclude Competition At SEC/Big 12 Challenge

COLLEGE STATION, Earlier this year, Persson set the school record in the 600 meters at the Arkansas Invitational with a time of 1:30.93. Freshman Logan Waites recorded the second school record of the afternoon as she accomplished the feat in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:04.59 en route to a ninth place finish. Sophomore LaJada Baldwin also turned in a strong showing for the women’s team in running events as she finished in second place of the 400 meters with a time of 54.86. Britney Barnard took fourth place in the 800 meters with her time of 2:10.90. In field events, junior Davina Orieukwu finished in fifth place in the shot put with a distance of 47-07.00. Sophomore Betty Williams recorded a mark of 50-07.25 in the weight throw on her way to an eighth place finish. Freshman Keith Brown turned in a strong showing in sprints as he took sixth in the 60 meters with a time of 6.89. Brown also finished in eighth place in the 200 meters with a mark of 22.00. Senior Michael Coleman took sixth in the 200 meters following a time of 21.87. Distance runner Barnabas Kirui claimed the individual title in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:12.26, while senior Kyle Lewis finished just behind in third place with a mark of 14:30.88. Several Rebels posted strong marks in field events led by freshman Brian Knight’s second place finish in the high jump. Knight posted a height of 6-06.75 to record the fifth best mark in school history in the event. Fellow freshman Tyler Morehead earned a sixth place finish in the event with his mark of 6-02.75. Freshman Caleb Lee took fourth place in the long jump with a distance of 24-01.75 before placing ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 45-11.75. Senior Wale Odetunde finished in seventh place of the long jump with a mark of 23-10.75, and earned a fifth place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 49-00.75.
