Women's Tennis To Compete In ITA Southern Regional

10/22/2009 | Women's Tennis

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team will compete in the ITA Southern Regional this weekend hosted by Auburn at the Yarbrough Tennis Center. The tournament begins Friday and concludes Monday Oct. 26 with the singles and doubles finals.

In August, the ITA announced a regional realignment. Beginning with this year, the regions will expand from eight to 12. In the previous alignment, the Rebels were part of the South Region, which included schools from Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. Now, the Rebels are part of the Southern Region, which includes Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana.

The winner of the singles and doubles events earns a spot in the ITA National Indoor in November.

Several Rebels have had a successful fall. Sophomore Abigail Guthrie owns a 7-0 record, while junior Connor Vogel is 7-2. Sophomore Gabriela Rangel holds a 5-2 mark.

"We've experienced a lot of success this fall, and we look forward to continuing that this weekend," head coach Mark Beyers said. "We've been having good practices since our last tournament, and we are excited to get back in action."
