Former Rebel Vance Veazey Earns 2010 PGA TOUR Card
10/26/2009 | Men's Golf
CHARLESTON, S.C. - Former Ole Miss men's golfer Vance Veazey was among 25 members of the Nationwide Tour who were awarded 2010 PGA TOUR cards Sunday at the Nationwide Tour Championship here at Daniel Island, by finishing among the year's top-25 money winners.
Veazey, a native of Memphis, Tenn., finished 23rd on the money list with earnings of $193, 243. He won the first event of the year (Panama Digicel Championship) and posted three top-10 finishes.
"This will be my fourth time going to the PGA TOUR, and I'm hoping to take everything I've learned this year and put it to good use next year," said the former All-SEC player. I've learned to not put pressure on myself and just take the good with the bad. All you can do is just keep on chugging along and play."
Veazey's former coach, Ernest Ross, was excited to learn that one of his former pupils had indeed achieved his goal of getting back to the big show.
"Vance has been a hard worker all his life," said Ross, who is down in Baton Rouge, La., with the Rebels, who are set to tee it up in the David Toms Intercollegiate Monday. He has shown he can play at the highest level in golf. I am happy he will be back on the PGA TOUR again next year."
Veazey has played in 89 PGA TOUR events with his best finish a tie for 10th at the 2007 Stanford St. Jude Championship.
As part of a new partnership with the Nationwide Tour, Tiffany & Co. was on site Sunday to hand engrave the Nationwide Tour Championship at Daniel Island trophy. Each player who finished in "The 25" received a personalized hand-engraved money clip with his 2010 PGA TOUR member card enclosed.
The Card Ceremony will be featured in the final episode of "Quest for the Card: Inside the Nationwide Tour", which will air five times on The Golf Channel beginning Oct. 28th at 6:30 p.m. CT.
The Nationwide Tour Championship at Daniel Island featured the top-60 money winners through last week's final full-field event of the year, the Miccosukee Championship in Miami.
