McCluster Named SEC Offensive Player Of The Week

10/26/2009 | Football

OXFORD, Miss. -- After a record-setting performance in Saturday's 30-17 win over Arkansas, Ole Miss' Dexter McCluster was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week, as announced today by the league office.

McCluster was also honored as the National Wide Receiver of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards.

A senior from Largo, Fla., McCluster became the first Ole Miss player in the modern era (records dating back to 1965) to top the 100-yard mark in both rushing and receiving. McCluster posted the first 100-yard rushing game of his career with career highs of 123 yards and 22 carries. His 123 yards on the ground marked the most by a Rebel since BenJarvus Green-Ellis ran for 131 yards against Alabama in 2007.

McCluster also topped the team in receiving for the first time this year with a career-high 137 receiving yards and a career high-tying seven grabs. He finished with 260 all-purpose yards, which is the most by a Rebel since McCluster's own career-best 268-yard performance in his Ole Miss debut against Memphis in 2006, which was the last time he earned an SEC weekly award as Freshman of the Week.

McCluster ranks second on the team in both rushing (41.0 ypg) and receiving (23 rec, 335 yds). Last year, McCluster joined Florida's Percy Harvin as the only players to rank top 10 in the SEC in rushing yards, receiving yards, receptions and all-purpose yards.

This marks the third Player of the Week honor for a Rebel this season, as John Jerry and Daverin Geralds were named top offensive linemen for the weeks of the Vanderbilt and UAB games, respectively. Ole Miss garnered eight SEC Players of the Week in 2008.

The Rebels (5-2, 2-2 SEC) return to action this week at Auburn (5-3, 2-3 SEC). Saturday's kickoff is set for 11:21 a.m. CT at Jordan-Hare Stadium, and the game will be televised on the SEC Network.
