Rebel Duo Advances At Riviera All-American

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Kristi Boxx and Karen Nijssen of the Ole Miss women's tennis team advanced to the second round of qualifying doubles at the ITA Riviera All-American Championships Tuesday at the Riviera Country Club.

The duo, ranked No. 9 in the nation and seeded No. 1 in qualifying, defeated Whitney Taney and Rika Tatsuno of Michigan, 8-5. They will face a team from Florida International in the second round.

In singles, Boxx advanced to the second round before falling to Alison Ramos of Southern California, 6-3, 6-4. Earlier in the day, the Grenada native defeated Sonya Molnar of Iowa 6-3, 7-6(2).

Nijssen lost in the first round to Aeriel Ellis of Texas, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Play continues Wednesday with two more rounds of doubles for Boxx and Nijssen.
