Guthrie In Semifinals At HEB Baylor Invitational

WACO, Texas -- Sophomore Abigail Guthrie of the Ole Miss women's tennis team will play for the singles title at the HEB Baylor Invitational Sunday after advancing to the finals earlier this morning. Guthrie, seeded No. 6 in the tournament, defeated third-seeded Elze' Potgieter of Texas A&M in the semifinals.
Guthrie had to come back in her first match of the day. After dropping the first set to Maria Martinez of Texas-Arlington 6-2, Guthrie won the next two 6-2, 6-1, respectively to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Guthrie beat Laura Santogroce of Texas A&M 6-4, 6-4 to improve her record to 13-1 on the year.
In doubles, the Ole Miss duo of Gabriela Rangel and Connor Vogel reached the semifinals by downing Santogroce and her partner, Ashley Turpin, 8-2. However, in the semifinals, Rangel and Vogel lost to Gabriella Kovacs and Sona Novakova of Armstrong Atlantic 8-4.

Quarterfinals -- Gabriela Rangel/Connor Vogel (OM) def. Santogroce/Ashley Turpin (TAMU) 8-2. Semifinals -- Gabriella Kovacs/Sona Novakova (AA) def. Rangel/Vogel (OM) 8-4.
