Ole Miss Rifle Announces Signees

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss rifle head coach Valerie Boothe announced the signing of four student-athletes on Tuesday. Maryann Banks, of Hueytown, Ala., Rena Goodwin, of Winchester, Mass., Abigail Stanec, of Sharon Center, Ohio, and Alivia Yeager, of Louisville, Ky., will all join the Rebels beginning in the 2010-11 academic year.

"We are very excited about this class," said Boothe, the only head coach in Ole Miss rifle history. "It is the most talented class we have signed in a long time and I'm excited about the amount of depth it gives us for next season."

A member of the Alabama State 3-P Junior Olympic Team and two-time 3-P individual champion, Banks comes to Oxford after a stellar prep career at Hope Christian Academy in Hueytown, Ala. Banks has also competed in the National Junior Olympic 3-P Air Rifle Championship and recently qualified for the National Junior Olympic Smallbore Championship to be held beginning in March 2010. She has claimed back-to-back Alabama State Smallbore championships and led her team to the 2008 Alabama 4-H Air and Smallbore championships. Coached by Perry Mitchell, Banks has competed in numerous national tournaments including taking third at the 2008 NRA Junior Smallbore Camp. She also competed in soccer in high school.

Goodwin comes to Ole Miss after helping lead the Massachusetts Rifle Advanced Junior team to a runner-up team finish and a ninth-place individual finish at the 2009Army Postal National Championships as a team captain. Goodwin also placed third at the 2009 USA Nationals at Fort Benning in the Class C smallbore competition. She took high junior and high female honors in the Eastern Massachusetts Smallbore league and was named the Dorothy Knight winner, as the most outstanding shooter. She also was the top female and junior finisher and third overall in the 2009 Johnson Trophy. Goodwin also competed in gymnastics, hockey and lacrosse, and was an honorable mention all-state pick in field hockey.

Stanec joins the Rebels after a stellar prep career at Highland High School in Sharon Center, Ohio. A two-time team captain, Stanec helped lead her squad to a second-place finish at the 2009 NRA Sectional. As an individual, she won the 2008 NRA Air Gun Championships and the 3-P Air Rifle Junior Olympics in 2008. A member of the National Honor Society, Stanec also played in the band.

A a two-time Kentuckiana Rifle Conference champion and three-time Most Valuable Shooter, Yeager competed in rifle for four years at Seneca High School in Louisville, Ky. Yeager finished seventh overall and was the third highest junior at the 2009 USA Junior National Championships. She also took third overall and was the second-best junior finisher at both the 2008 Junior Olympic Smallbore Championships and the 2009 Junior Olympics Air Rifle Championships, and was the top junior finisher at the 2009 3-P Junior Olympics.
