Renee Ladner Postgame Quotes

11/20/2009 | Women's Basketball

Opening Statement

"I thought it was another great team effort. It was an opportunity for a lot of people to play and for a lot of people to see where they are right now. I thought we had some standouts, as we should. I thought Bianca Thomas had a quiet 31 (points) in my book. I had no idea that she had that many points. I thought my point guards handled the ball very well, had few turnovers and now we are going to go on the road. I hope this is a confidence builder for our entire team."

On turnovers

"What I see with this team is maturity and I see them sticking to a game plan. The one main focus of the day was to play smothering defense, make them turn the ball over and shoot layups if possible."

On the play of Nikki Byrd

"Nikki Byrd had great moments. She plays extremely hard at times but, then her effort is not as good at times. I think that is an ongoing process with a post player. I think they have to get in shape, and I think game experience helps them do that. She has great hands and she can finish around the basket. She had good moments today."

On the Arizona Wildcats

"I know they're undefeated. I know they are coached by Niya Butts, who played for Pat Summitt at Tennessee. I know they will play extremely hard and will be well-coached. I've seen some tape on them, but not enough to determine what they are going to do against us. We've got a long road trip, and we're going to find out how mature we are and if we can come out and play at their gym. There is probably going to be 5,000 people in the gym. So again, we're going to have to go in ready."
