BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After helping the Rebels to a 25-23 win over LSU, Ole Miss' Reid Neely was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week, as announced today by the league office.
A senior guard from Jackson, Neely played a key role in Ole Miss gaining 426 total offensive yards against the eighth-ranked Tigers. The Rebel offense averaged 6.4 yards per play while the offensive line did not give up a sack.
Neely was credited wtih 14 finishes, four knockdown blocks and two pancakes, grading out at 98 percent in the run game and 94 percent in the pass plays.
With Neely starting every game, the Rebel line has allowed fewer sacks than a year ago (13 to 20) and helped Ole Miss rush for more yards (191.3 ypg to 186.5 ypg) and maintain total offense (407.5 ypg to 407.6 ypg).
This marks the fifth Player of the Week honor for a Rebel this season and third offensive lineman award, as John Jerry and Daverin Geralds received the distinction for the weeks of the Vanderbilt and UAB games, respectively. Ole Miss garnered eight SEC Players of the Week in 2008.
The Rebels (8-3, 4-3 SEC) wrap up the regular season Saturday at Mississippi State. Kickoff is set for 11:21 a.m. CT, and the game will be televised by the SEC Network.
