OXFORD, Miss. - A standout not only on the field, but also in the classroom, Ole Miss senior Danielle Johnson has been named an adidas Scholar All-America second-team selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

The Rebels' only four-time All-SEC and All-Region selection on the pitch, Johnson also maintains a 3.55 grade point average as a management major. She is the fourth Rebel to earn Scholar All-America honors from the NSCAA and the eighth overall to receive a national academic award.

"It is a tremendous honor for Danielle to be recognized as one of the top student-athletes in the nation in her sport," said Rebel head coach Steve Holeman. "She has worked incredibly hard throughout her career on and off the field, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving."

The Baton Rouge, La, native is also a two-time Academic All-District honoree. Ole Miss was honored recently with the NSCAA Team Academic Award for boasting a team GPA of 3.22 during the 2008-09 academic year.

To be nominated for consideration for Scholar All-America, student-athletes must have had at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout their career; start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team; be nominated by an institution that is a current NSCAA College Services member; be a junior or above in academic standing at the current institution and either be in their second year at the current school if a transfer student.

The NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-America selections will be recognized at the annual All-America Luncheon, held in Philadelphia, Pa., on Jan. 16 as part of the 2010 NSCAA Convention.
