Rebels Beat Memphis 73-72 In Dramatic Fashion

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Elizabeth Robertson's three-pointer with 2.3 seconds left to play lifted Ole Miss to a thrilling 73-72 come-from-behind win over Memphis Friday night at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.

Memphis (4-5) held a 70-65 lead with 1:40 left to play following a free throw from Chatia Kelsey before All-SEC guard Bianca Thomas hit the Rebels' first three-pointer of the game with 48 seconds on the clock to cut the Tiger lead to two points.

After a Memphis turnover in the ensuing inbounds play, Ole Miss tied the game at 70-70 when Shantell Black converted on a layup with 34 seconds remaining.

Brittany Carter then gave the Tigers the lead with 18 seconds on the clock on the following play with a running jumper on the baseline. Ole Miss' final play saw Black drive into the lane before kicking out to Robertson from the game-winning three-pointer for her one and only field goal of the second half.

Ole Miss was 0-14 from three point range until the final 1:40.

Memphis opened up a nine-point lead with just under eight minutes remaining following a three-pointer from Winchell. Ole Miss answered with a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to take its first lead of the second half capped by a layup from Nikki Byrd.

The Tigers scored the next six points to take a 69-64 lead with just over three minutes left and held at least a four-point edge for the next 2:07 before Thomas' three-pointer.

Kayla Melson scored a career-high 17 points for Ole Miss to surpass her previous career-high of 16 she posted last week against Ohio State.

Thomas finished with 13 points, while Black added 11 points and nine assists. Memphis native LaKendra Phillips chipped in with 11 points and tied her career-high with eight rebounds. Byrd finished with 10 points and seven rebounds and was the fifth Rebel in double figures.

Memphis guard Alex Winchell scored a game-high 20 points and hit a career-high six three-pointers, while Carter added 17 points. LaToya Bullard registered the game's only double-double with 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

Ole Miss returns to action Sunday at 1 p.m. when the Rebels welcome Winston-Salem State to Tad Smith Coliseum.
