Renee Ladner Postgame Quotes
12/20/2009 | Women's Basketball
On the victory...
"I think it was extremely lopsided because our kids came out and made it a point of emphasis to play really hard and give great effort. I knew this team had not been very good in a while, but they are getting better. If you look at our scores, its clear we are getting better with each game. It was just our turn. We've played some really tough games, and I think we only had one turnover at halftime. The things that I'm proud of is that everybody got to play, we took care of the ball and we held them below 50 points. Everybody got to play and we all looked like we knew what we were doing"
On the contribution of the younger players...
"When the score is lopsided you have that opportunity, but, however, had they not gone out and played basketball the way they were supposed to they would have sat down. I was extremely happy with their play. I thought Whiney (Hameth) had really good moments, and I thought Nikki Byrd looked really good inside. I thought LaTosha (Laws) settled in and gave us some good minutes, and Courtney Marbra was an extremely bright spot for us. What you're looking at is next year's team. You have Kayla Melson at the point and you've got Whitney, you've got Tasha, Courtney Marba and you've got Nikki Byrd. It's giving them valuable game experience."
On the 31 assists...
"I thought our post game was important in the second half. That was by design. We've got to develop the post game because we are struggling on the perimeter. People are really shutting down our perimeter."
On the last few games...
"I'm happy with our effort, but I still think we should be undefeated. At Arizona our guards didn't play well, at Old Dominion our posts didn't play well, so we weren't on the same page. We had Ohio State (beat) here and didn't think we could finish the game and at Texas I thought we should have beaten them as well. In my opinion to be in the upper echelon we should be able to beat those people or be able to control the outcome of the game. I'm big on we're not going to let things happen, we're going to make things happen. We will have to play with everything we have in the conference because of our home-and-home schedule."
