December 8, 2009

Hello Rebel fans,

I hope everyone is having a great week and is excited about the holidays coming up. I can't believe it's already the middle of December. It feels like we just started our preseason practices last week. My senior year is just flying by! This week is going to be one of the toughest challenges our team faces all season. We are currently in the middle of finals this week and then at the end of the week we play our toughest opponent so far this season when No. 9 Ohio State comes to the Tad Pad Sunday at 1 p.m.

We are really excited about having the opportunity to play one of the best teams in the country in our gym. Ever since I have been here we have proven we can play with the best teams in the country, and we feel like Sunday won't be any different when we play the Buckeyes. We have so much respect for their program, but we also feel like we can compete with anyone.

I hope that everyone will come out Sunday and watch us play. We really feed off the crowd and we are going to need that again this weekend. I can't tell you how much it helps give us energy when you hear thousands of people screaming and cheering in support of you. It takes us to another level and we really hope you will come to the Tad Pad Sunday and be the loud and loyal fans that we know you are.

Sunday's game will also be a way for everyone to get an early start on bringing the Christmas cheer to those who aren't as fortunate. We are teaming up with the Lafayette County Literacy Council in the fight against illiteracy. Twenty-three percent of adults in Lafayette County are functionally illiterate, meaning approximately 9,000 adults in our community can not read well enough to fill out a job application or follow a simple recipe.

All you have to do is bring a new or used book to the game and donate it to the Lafayette County Literacy Council and you will receive free admission to the game. This is a terrific way to give back to the community, and I hope you choose to be a part of something so great.

Our season so far has been pretty good, but we feel like we should probably be undefeated. We lost two road games that we felt like we let slip away. Although we are upset with our two losses, we have put them behind us and have focused on how we can get better and achieve our goal of getting back to the NCAA Tournament. We have six seniors this season and we want nothing more than to get back to the Big Dance one final time.

We feel like we have a lot of talent on this team and we have what it takes to be playing in March. Bianca Thomas has really put us on her shoulders this season and has developed into one of the country's best players. She is leading the SEC in scoring right now and is ranked fifth in the nation with 23.8 points per game. She has really been amazing this year and has taken her game to new heights. If everyone can just step up a little more and play to the level we know we are capable of, we know we can be one of the better teams in the SEC.

Until next time…
