OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss women’s tennis team, looking to pick up its second win in a row, will host the University of Iowa Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Gillom Sports Center.
The Rebels (1-2) downed Troy 7-0 in their last action on Feb. 6. Ole Miss jumped on Troy early, dominating the doubles. The Rebels picked up singles from freshman Kristi Boxx at No. 2 and sophomore Laura van de Stroet at No. 3, before sophomore Karen Nijssen clinched the match at No. 1 to remain undefeated in dual matches.
Iowa comes into the weekend at 4-2 on the season. The Hawkeyes defeated Louisville 4-3 and Marquette 5-2 in their last action. They will play at Alabama Saturday, before coming to Oxford. The Hawkeyes are led by Sonja Molnar at No. 1 singles.
“We lost to them last year up at their place, and losing those type of matches kept us out of the NCAAs,” head coach Mark Beyers said. “They just beat Louisville, who at the time was ranked 39th, so it should be a good match.”
Admission to all home matches is free.
