Men's Golf In Second At Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Led by Jacksonville, Fla., native Sean Dale, the Ole Miss men's golf team fired a 274-281--555 Saturday on day one of the Gator Invitational and stands in second place. The Rebels trail host Florida by 10 heading into Sunday's final round at the Mark Bostick Course.
"We got off to a quick start and played well all day," head coach Ernest Ross said. "We did get caught in a hard rain on the last four holes and lost a few shots to par. Most teams struggled in the rain except Florida. This was a good confidence builder for the first day of our season. Our good practice round preparation paid off today."
Dale, one of two freshmen in the lineup for the Rebels, fired a three-under 67 on the par 70 course in the first round and then finished up with a 70 for a two-round total of 137. He is tied for fourth, four back of individual leader, Florida's Toby Ragland (133).
Sophomore Jonathan Randolph carded a one-over 71 in the first round and then came back with a two-under 68 in the second and is tied for ninth heading into the final round. Right behind him, are junior Will Roebuck and senior Stefan Strandlund, both at 141. After opening with a 68, freshman Joe David posted a 75 in the second round and is at 143.
Ole Miss leads third place Duke (563) by eight and fourth-place Coastal Carolina (565) by 10. Central Florida rounds out the top five at 566.
