Rebel Golf Takes Second At Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. Despite a difficult final round, the Ole Miss men’s golf team held on to take second at the SunTrust Gator Invitational Sunday, at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.

The Rebels shot a seven-over 287 in the final round, but held a significant lead over the teams behind them coming in after Saturday’s 274-281.  Host Florida outdistanced the field with an 824.  Central Florida finished third at 846, Florida State took third at 847, and Duke rounded out the top five with an 848.

This marks the Rebels second runner-up finish and their fourth top-five showing of the year.

Jacksonville, Fla., native Sean Dale carded a 67-70-71208 to tie for sixth and lead the Rebels.  It marks the freshman’s third top 10 of the year.  Sophomore Jonathan Randolph tied for 15th with a 71-68-72211.

Junior Will Roebuck posted a 69-72-72213, freshman Joe David turned in a 68-75-72215, and senior Stefan Strandlund completed a 70-71-75216 to round out the Rebels.

“We had a good tournament in spite of not having our “A” game today,” head coach Ernest Ross said.  “I am proud of our team for finishing second out of 14 good teams. This is a great start to our spring.  We know we have some areas to improve. The course played tougher with tucked pins and all the tees back.”

Ole Miss returns to the links next weekend in Orlando, Fla.  They will face Louisville and Southern Miss in a match next Saturday, which is a make-up date for the final round of the Memphis Intercollegiate getting rained out.  Following that, the Rebels will tee it up in the Rio Pinar Intercollegiate, hosted by Central Florida.
