2/17/2009 | Men's Tennis

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Ole Miss men’s tennis player Devin Britton has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Britton, a native of Jackson, Miss., went 2-0 at No. 2 singles and clinched wins over No. 16 Florida State and No. 7 Florida for the Rebels this past weekend at the National Team Indoor.  He won a key first set tiebreaker against 29th-ranked Clint Bowles of FSU that allowed him to win it in the third set.

With his two wins, Britton evened his dual match record to 3-3 at No. 1 and 2 singles.  In his three losses, two have come in a third set tiebreaker.  Britton has clinched three of the Rebels’ six wins this year.

Ole Miss (6-1) returns to the courts Feb. 26 against TCU in Waco, Texas, followed by a showdown at No. 10 Baylor on Feb. 27.
