The Rebels took the doubles point to gain the early 1-0 lead. The freshman duo of Gabriela Rangel and Abigail Guthrie won 8-5 at No. 3 and then Karen Nijssen and Kristi Boxx finished up their 8-1 win at No. 1. Guthrie and Boxx both won their singles matches quickly by the same score of 6-1, 6-0 to make it 3-0 Ole Miss. Guthrie remained undefeated in dual matches at No. 5 singles, while Boxx improved to 3-2 at No. 2 singles. Karen Nijssen clinched the victory with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No.1 singles over ASU’s Jenny Herring, improving her record to 4-1. The Rebels won the remaining three matches in three sets for the sweep. Laura van de Stroet notched her fourth consecutive win and third at No. 3 singles. “Any time you play your first match outdoors, you never know what to expect,” head coach Mark Beyers said. “We played well for the first one. We’re pleased with the way things went. Obviously some players need to improve a little, but we need these matches outdoors to get prepared for conference play.” The match will played at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center, weather permitting.
