Rebels Blast USC-Upstate; Rest Of Tournament Canceled

The game between the Rebels and Spartans was started on Friday, but postponed until Saturday morning due to rain. The game resumed with score tied at one in the bottom of the first.
The Rebels took the lead from Upstate with a three-run second inning. Aly Presswood led off the frame with a walk and moved to second on Alyssa McGovern’s single to left. Ole Miss loaded the bases on Corrine Doornberg’s bunt single and broke onto scoreboard with a Lisa Conchos sac fly. McGovern later scored on a wild pitch and Amber Tramp knocked in Doornberg on a single to give the Rebels a 4-1 lead.
Grill extended the Rebel lead with a two-run homer to deep left in the fourth. It was the All-American’s fourth homer of the season and second in as many days.
Ole Miss broke the game open with a four-run sixth inning highlighted by RBI singles from Tramp, McGovern and
Doornberg finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with three singles and three runs scored. Grill added three RBI on two hits while McGovern scored two runs and drove in another on two hits.
Lindsey Perry started for the Rebels and picked up the win after pitching 4.0 innings. She allowed four runs on six hits and walked three. Becky Nye entered in the fifth and picked up the save after pitching the final 3.0 innings. Nye gave up only two hits and struck out three.
