2/9/2009 | Softball

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss junior Becky Nye was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday, the league office announced. It is the first such honor for Nye in her career.

Nye recorded two complete-game wins at No. 6 Louisiana-Lafayette to help Ole Miss to its first series win over a top-10 team in school history.  On Saturday, she limited the Cajuns to just two runs and struck out three batters in the Rebels' 4-2 win. In Sunday’s rubber game, Nye turned in a brilliant 10.0 inning shutout of ULL. She pitched a career long in innings, allowed only five hits, while striking out four batters for her seventh career shutout.

On the weekend, the McKinney, Texas native allowed only two runs in 17.0 innings of work. Nye struck out seven Cajuns and only gave up 11 hits.

Next up, Ole Miss travels to Waco, Texas for the Getterman Classic hosted by Baylor. The Rebels will face Baylor, New Mexico, Northwestern State, Stephen F. Austin and Texas-San Antonio in the round-robin tournament.
