Rebels Welcome Jacksonville State For Wednesday Tilt

OXFORD, Miss. - After dropping a tight three-game series with the Auburn Tigers to open SEC play this past weekend, the Ole Miss Rebels will return home on Wednesday for a non-conference tilt with the Jacksonville State Gamecocks. The Rebels and the Gamecocks will play a single game on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.

The Rebels (11-9, 0-3 SEC) are lead by junior All-American Lauren Grill, who has blasted five home runs on the season and knocked in 16 RBI. Grill’s five round-trippers are tied for seventh in the SEC and give her 31 for her career. Senior Michelle May leads the squad with a .367 batting average, while freshman Corrine Doornberg got off to a hot start in league play, collecting five hits in 10 at-bats against the Tigers.

In the circle, junior Becky Nye continues to pace the Rebels with a 7-5 record and a 1.82 ERA with 58 strikeouts in 88.2 innings.

The Gamecocks of Jacksonville State enter the game with a 13-7 overall record after picking up a pair of wins at the Georgia Tech Buzz Tournament over the weekend. In the final game of the tournament, the Gamecocks earned a thrilling win over Indiana State with a game-winning homer in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Junior Nikki Prier, a transfer from Wake Forest, leads the team with a .423 batting average and is tied for the team high with 16 RBI.

The series between Ole Miss and Jacksonville State is tied at one game apiece, however the Rebels took last year’s meeting by a score of 2-1.

After facing off against Jacksonville State, the Rebels will return to SEC play when the host the Florida Gators for a three-game series beginning on Saturday. The Gators ascended to the No. 1 team in the nation in both polls this week after sweeping South Carolina last weekend to open conference play.
