Baldwin Finishes Fifth At NCAA Indoor Championships

3/14/2009 | Track and Field

COLLEGE STATION, Texas. Ole Miss sophomore sprinter LaJada Baldwin raced to a fifth place finish in the finals of the 400 meters with a time of 53.28 Saturday afternoon at the NCAA Indoor Championships from Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.

Her time was also the fastest mark in school history in the 400 meters on a 200 banked track. Earlier this year, she set the school record on an oversized track with a time of 52.98.

Baldwin's fifth place finish also earned her All-American accolades for the second time in her career. She was also named an outdoor All-American last season after placing ninth in the 400 meters.

"LaJada ran a phenomenal race today in what proved to be a very competitive event," Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker said. "I thought she was outstanding today."

Ole Miss returns to action Saturday when the Rebels open the outdoor season by traveling to Memphis, Tenn., to take part in the Rhodes Invitational.
