Ole Miss jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead by dominating the doubles. All total, the Rebels only lost seven games in the doubles and
improved to 6-1 this season when taking the first point.
Freshman Abigail Guthrie cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Lobo Ashley Bonner at No. 5 singles to make it 2-0 Ole Miss. Guthrie is now 8-2 on the season.
Guthrie’s doubles’ partner and fellow freshman, Gabriela Rangel, rebounded from a heartbreaking loss on Sunday to post a 6-4, 6-4 victory against NM’s Victoria Tessmar at No. 4 singles.
Senior Mimi Renaudin, playing just her second singles match this season, defeated Marai Sotirchos 7-5, 6-2 at No. 6 singles to clinch the victory.
Freshman Kristi Boxx won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, and sophomore Laura van de Stroet came out on top in three sets at No.3 singles to round out the scoring.
"We had a solid win today," head coach Mark Beyers said. "We are excited to be moving on to the semifinals. Tomorrow should be a tougher test against the University of San Diego."
In their only win of the day, New Mexico’s Mackenzie White defeated Rebel sophomore Karen Nijssen 0-6, 6-3, 7-6(4) at No. 2 singles.
