Rebels Host Bayou Bengals

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Rebels will continue their eight-game home stand on Tuesday, as they welcome the No. 21 nationally-ranked LSU Tigers to Oxford for a double header starting at 4 p.m.

The Rebels picked up their first conference win of the season last week, as the downed the South Carolina Gamecocks 12-8 in the second game of a double header on Wednesday. Ole Miss dropped its three-game series with No. 2 Alabama over the weekend.

Junior All-American Lauren Grill continues to pace the Rebels with six home runs and 20 RBI. Grill is tied for 10th in the SEC with six long balls and now has 32 for her career. Senior Michelle May leads the squad with a .315 batting average, while in the circle junior Becky Nye has post a 2.48 ERA and eight wins in 15 starts this season.

“We are looking to carry our strong performance on Sunday against Alabama over to Tuesday’s matchup with LSU,” said Ole Miss head coach Missy Dickerson.

LSU enters the mid-week matchup after sweeping a three-game series from Mississippi State this past weekend. The Tigers have five straight SEC games, including a pair of victories over No. 2 Alabama last week. Junior Kirsten Shortridge leads the Bayou Bengals with a .402 average, while Rachel Mitchell has posted a team-high 23 RBI. Junior Cody Trahan leads the Tigers in the circle with a 6-1 record and a 1.93 ERA.

Ole Miss trails the Tigers 35-5 in the all-time series, but the Rebels took two-of-three from then No. 12 LSU a year ago. Lauren Grill smashed two home runs in the series and Becky Nye shutout the Tigers on Sunday to help the Rebels to their first-ever series win over LSU.
