ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- The No. 2 nationally ranked Ole Miss men’s tennis team shut out Florida Atlantic 7-0 here at Sandlano Park Wednesday. The Rebels (14-2) will now head to Gainesville to take on the No. 7 Florida Gators Friday at 2 p.m. CT.

Ole Miss swept the doubles to take the early 1-0 lead.  The No. 2 ranked senior duo of Jonas Berg and Bram ten Berge won 8-4 at No. 1, and then Devin Britton and Tucker Vorster clinched the point with an 8-3 win at No. 2.

In singles, the Rebels did not drop a set in any of the matches, as they needed only two hours to finish off the Owls and win their seventh straight match.  First off the court, freshman Marcel Thiemann downed FAU’s Eddie Majcher 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5.  Junior Kalle Norberg made it 3-0, cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Owl Daniel Vardag at No. 2.  For the second match in a row, sophomore Tucker Vorster clinched the victory with his 6-1, 6-4 win over Santiago Nieto on court six.

Freshman Devin Britton, playing his sixth match at No.1 singles, evened his record there, by defeating Marc Abdelnour 6-3, 7-6.  Abdelnour came into the match with a 16-1 record at that position.

“The guys did a great job of focusing and taking care of business from the start of the match,” head coach Billy Chadwick said.   “Now, we turn our attention to a very good Florida team.  We beat them earlier in the year indoors, but we know it will be a tough out at their place.  We’ll have to be at our best.”

Friday’s match against Florida will mark the Rebels fifth straight Top 25 opponent in the SEC.  The Gators enter the contest ranked No. 7 at 11-5 overall, 2-2 in the SEC.  They are coming off a 6-1 loss to Tennessee in their last action.  The Gators are led by 24th-ranked freshman Carlos Cueto and 14th-ranked sophomore Alex Lacroix.
