Rebels Host SEC West Leading Razorbacks

OXFORD, Miss. - After picking the its second SEC victory of the season in a split with No. 17 LSU on Tuesday, the Ole Miss Rebels will conclude an eight-game home stand this weekend by hosting the SEC West leading Arkansas Razorbacks for a three-game series at the Ole Miss Softball Complex. The two teams will square off in a double header on Saturday at 1 p.m. and conclude the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Ole Miss spilt a pair of games with the No. 17 Tigers earlier in the week. The Rebels took the first game of the day 3-2 in 10 innings. Ole Miss trailed 2-0 entering in the bottom of the seventh inning before two runs, the last coming on a wild pitch to send the game into extras. In the bottom of the 10th, junior Alyssa McGovern singled home Alise Doubt with two outs to give the Rebels a 3-2 win. LSU came back in the second game of the day to knock off Ole Miss 5-2.

“We are coming off a strong showing against LSU,” said Ole Miss head coach Missy Dickerson, who will earn her 200th career victory with her next win. “Arkansas has had a strong showing in SEC play so far. We need to put all parts of our game together and have a strong performance this weekend.”

Junior Lauren Grill continues to lead the Rebels with six home runs and 21 RBI and is batting a team-best .333 in her last seven games. Freshman Corrine Doornberg In the circle, junior Becky Nye leads the Rebels with nine wins and a 2.40 ERA in 16 starts. leads the team with a .302 batting average and is second on the squad batting .306 in conference games behind Grill’s .317.

Arkansas enters the weekend as the SEC Western division leader with a 7-2 mark in conference play. The Razorbacks dropped a single game at No. 9 Tennessee on Wednesday. The two teams were originally scheduled to play double header, but weather forced the cancellation of the second game. Senior Whitney Cloer leads the Razorbacks with a .378 batting average, seven homers and 24 RBI. In the circle, junior Miranda Dixon has posted an 11-3 record and 2.73 ERA.

Ole Miss trails Arkansas 27-13 in the all-time series, but the Rebels have won four of the last five games, including taking two-of-three in Fayetteville a year ago.
