3/5/2009 | Softball

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Rebel softball team (11-6) travels to Auburn, Ala. this weekend for the Southeastern Conference opener with the home standing Tigers. The two teams will play a double header on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. and conclude the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Auburn enters the conference opener with a 17-6 record after dropping a double header to Mercer on Tuesday. The Tigers are led by senior Myesha Finney, who sports a team-leading .385 batting average, four home runs and 17 RBI. Senior Anna Thompson paces the Tigers in the circle with a 10-4 record, a 1.22 ERA and 137 strikeouts in 80.1 innings.

Senior Michelle May leads the Rebels with a .381 average, while junior All-American Lauren Grill ranks fifth in the SEC with four home runs and 15 RBI. Grill hit a pair of homers at the weather-shorten Red & Blue Classic last weekend, including a grand slam. Junior Becky Nye has posted a 7-4 record with a 1.23 ERA and 47 strikeouts in the circle for Ole Miss.

Auburn leads the series over Ole Miss with a 27-13 all-time record. The Tigers swept all three games from the Rebels last season in Oxford.
