Rebels Set Three Provisional Marks at Last Chance Meets

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. The Ole Miss track and field team posted one new school record and two NCAA provisional marks over the weekend at the Arkansas Last Chance Meet from the Randal Tyson Track Complex.

 

Sophomore Juliana Smith set a new school record in the weight throw and improved her NCAA provisional mark with a distance of 63-04.25 en route to a second place finish.  Smith broke her own previous school record distance of 62-03.00 she set last week at the SEC Indoor Championships. 

 

Junior Davina Orieukwu posted an NCAA provisional mark and set a new school record in the shot put with a distance of 50-07.50 on her way to a second place finish. 

 

On the men’s side, senior Derek McGuire placed first in the shot put with a mark of 57-06.50.  Fellow senior Wale Odetunde turned in a fourth place showing in the triple jump with a distance of 46-04.00.

 

Senior distance runner Kyle Lewis, who competed at the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind., finished in eighth place in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:19.14. 

 

The Ole Miss women's 4x400 meter relay team of Jasmine Dacus, Sofie Persson, Britney Barnard and LaJada Baldwin raced to an NCAA provisional mark and the second fastest time in school history with a time of 3:36.86.  The quartet finished in fourth place at the Alex Wilson Invitational. 

 

Ole Miss returns to action March 13-14 when select Rebels will compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships from College Station, Texas.
