Rebels Capture 22 NCAA Regional Marks At Ole Miss Invitational

Juliana Smith set a new school record in the hammer throw with an NCAA regional distance of 189-02.00 on her way to a second place finish. She shattered the previous school record of 181-04.00 she set earlier in the year at the Rhodes Invitational. Sophomore Betty Williams finished eighth in the event with a mark of 153-02.00 to collect the fifth furthest distance in school history.
Junior Colin Moleton set a new school record for the men’s team in the javelin throw with an NCAA regional distance of 211-11.00 on his way to the individual title. Fellow junior Bryce Willen, who previously held the school record, finished in second place in the event with an NCAA regional distance of 211-06.00 for the second furthest distance in school history.
Senior thrower Derek McGuire turned in a first place finish in the shot put with an NCAA regional distance of 58-07.25. McGuire went on to take sixth place in the discus throw with a mark of 162-09.00.
Also in field events, junior Karl Kosman placed fourth in the pole vault with a height of 15-05.50.
Freshman jumper Brian Knight set a new personal best and recorded an NCAA regional mark in the high jump with a distance of 6-10.75. Knight posted a second place finish in the event and earned the fourth best mark in school history. He recorded his second NCAA regional mark of the meet with a third place showing in the triple jump with a distance of 49-06.25.
In the long jump, freshman Caleb Lee collected an NCAA regional mark and an individual title with a distance of 24-06.50. Lee posted a second NCAA regional mark in the triple jump following a fourth place finish with a distance of 49-02.50.
Senior Wale Odetunde finished in third place in the long jump with his NCAA regional distance of 24-02.25. Odetunde also won the triple jump with an NCAA regional mark of 50-04.75.
Freshman Keith Brown set a new personal best with an NCAA regional time of 10.54 in the 100 meters en route to a third place finish. Christopher Bush turned in an eighth place showing in the 400 meters with a time of 47.97.
Middle distance runner Gabriel Ngwiri took sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.20, while senior Kyle Lewis finished in third place in the 1500 meters with a mark of 3:52.16. Chad Berry placed eighth in the 1500 meters following his time of 3:58.99.
Carson Blanks recorded his first career NCAA regional mark with a time of 52.20 in the 400 meter hurdles en route to a fourth place finish.
Both of the Rebel men’s relay teams finished in the top-5 of their respective events, beginning with a fifth place showing in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 41.16. The 4x400 meter relay team won the event following a time of 3:10.59.
On the women’s side, freshman Kristin Bridges raced to a fourth place finish in the 100 meters with an NCAA regional time of 11.54. In addition, it was her first career NCAA regional mark and the fourth fastest time in school history. Senior Kadeshia Fortune also posted an NCAA regional mark with a time of 11.60 en route to a sixth place finish.
LaJada Baldwin, who ranks first in the nation in the 400 meters, won the individual title in the event and posted an NCAA regional time with a mark of 53.24.
Senior Britney Barnard won the 800 meters by posting an NCAA regional time of 2:09.39, while Lindsay Doucett claimed fifth place following her time of 2:14.26.
In the 400 meter hurdles, sophomore Sofie Persson raced to the third fastest time in school history with an NCAA regional mark of 59.46 en route to a first place finish. Not far behind, Jasmine Dacus took fourth with a time of 1:01.95.
The women’s 4x100 meter relay team posted an NCAA regional mark and a second place finish with a time of 45.37. The 4x400 meter relay team also collected an NCAA regional mark and a second place finish following a time of 3:39.02.
Freshman Aria Gaines posted a personal best and an NCAA regional mark with a distance of 40-06.00 in the triple jump to earn a second place finish. She also took sixth in the long jump following a mark of 18-08.50.
Thrower Davina Orieukwu placed second in the shot put with an NCAA regional distance of 53-07.75, while Williams also accomplished the feat with a mark of 47-03.50 on her way to an eighth place showing.
Marlee Kevech finished in fourth place in the javelin throw with a distance of 131-08.00.
Ole Miss returns to action April 16-18 when the Rebels travel to
