BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- For the third week in a row, the SEC Champion Ole Miss men’s tennis team has received SEC Freshman of the Week honors, with Chris Thiemann earning the accolade this time.
Thiemann went 2-0 in singles in wins over LSU and Arkansas on the road to help the Rebels clinch a share of the SEC Championship. His win over LSU’s Mark Bowtell gave the Rebels a 2-0 lead after they had dropped the doubles point. Thiemann then downed Razorback Connor Smith to put the Rebels within one of clinching the match at Arkansas and their fifth SEC Championship. He is 3-0 in the SEC.
All four of Ole Miss’ freshmen have received the weekly honor a total of six times this season. Devin Britton and Marcel Thiemann have been named freshman of the week twice, and Otto Sauer once.
The Rebels will conclude the regular season Saturday at Mississippi State with a chance to clinch the SEC Championship outright. The match begins at 12 p.m. at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
