Women's Golf Set For SEC Championship
4/15/2009 | Women's Golf
The SEC boasts six teams in the top 25 led by No. 6 Alabama. Ole Miss heads into the tournament ranked No. 38.
The Rebels are coming off a runner-up finish at the Rebel Intercollegiate. The team shot a final round even par 288 to take second, while senior Dori Carter captured medalist honors, winning her first tournament title.
In addition to being ranked among the top golfers in the nation, Carter is ranked third in the SEC in stroke average at 72.45. She tied for fourth at last year’s SEC Championship.
Joining Carter on the links this weekend will be junior Sara Grantham, freshmen Haley Millsap and Ashley Lance and sophomore Jillian Brodd.
“Our final round of the Rebel Intercollegiate gave us motivation for a great week of practice, and the luxury of being at home for our last tournament was a real bonus. Hearing the roar of the crowd as Dori’s putt dropped in for the win still is lingering in our ears, and I get fired up just thinking about it.
“Our focus this week has been to get back on our fundamentals and what each individual needs to work on to improve. It’s a never ending process to be on top of your game.”
Live scoring for the championship will be available throughout the three days of competition. To access it, go to www.OleMissSports.com and click on the link in the calendar box.
