Will Roebuck Paces Rebel Golf At SEC Championship

ST. SIMON’S ISLAND, Ga. -- Junior Will Roebuck shot a 2-under 70 in the first round of the SEC Championship Friday to pace the Ole Miss men’s golf team at the Frederica Golf Club.  The Rebels are in seventh with a 296.

Roebuck is tied for fourth, three back of Kentucky’s Jordan Blann.  Roebuck turned in a career-low final round 67 at the Reunion Intercollegiate in his last tournament for the Rebels.

“It was very windy and tough conditions,” head coach Ernest Ross said.  “We are really proud of Will for a fine round of 70. This is a really strong conference with a lot of outstanding players.

“We need to improve our shot-making in the wind.  Too many times we let the ball get away from us playing into the wind. We will try to play better wind golf tomorrow.”

Top-ranked Georgia was the only team to shoot under par for the day, firing a 6-under 282 to lead the field.  Arkansas is in second with a 290.  Florida and Vanderbilt are tied for third at 292, and South Carolina and Mississippi State are tied for fifth at 293.

Freshmen Joe David and Sean Dale carded a 74 and 76 respectively, and sophomore Jonathan Randolph had a 76, and senior Jesse Speirs finished with a 79.
