OXFORD, Miss.  Rebel fans and members of the Oxford and University community will have one more thing to celebrate this weekend as Ole Miss will host a celebration of Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field and the recent renovations to the facility.

Fans and community members alike are invited to come out and be part of the celebration as the No. 11 Ole Miss Rebels host No. 1 Georgia in a three-game series. From special guests to giveaways and prizes, each game will have something different to offer fans.

“This weekend is a great opportunity for our fans to see two of the best baseball teams in the nation,” said Ole Miss Athletics Director Pete Boone. “The partnership between Ole Miss fans and the city of Oxford has produced the best college baseball facility in the country. We want everyone to come out and see two great teams and a great facility this weekend.”

Friday night kicks off the celebration with a fireworks show following the evening’s game against the top-ranked Bulldogs.

In addition to the Double Decker Arts Festival going on downtown on the square, Saturday will be full of excitement at O-U Stadium as well. The recently renovated stadium will be open for tours as an Open House will be held from 10 a.m. through noon. Fans will be able to tour the stadium and see different areas from the team rooms, the Diamond Club level, the press box areas and other parts of the stadium not often accessible to fans.

As a continuing part of the celebration on Saturday, the 1969 Southeastern Conference Championship team will be on-hand in recognition of the 40th anniversary of the conference title and a berth in the College World Series. Also on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch will be Oxford mayor Richard Howorth.

Sunday will be a celebration as a part of the University’s Green Initiative as the Rebels will support the environment. Any fan who rides their bicycle to the game and parks in the designated bicycle parking area in front of the stadium will be eligible for discounted tickets and to win one of two brand new bicycles to be given away by Regions Bank and Active Oxford.

Friday night’s contest kicks off the weekend long celebration as Ole Miss and Georgia will take the field for a 6:30 p.m. start. Saturday’s game will begin at 4 p.m. and Sunday’s contest will start at 1:30 p.m.
