Dori Carter Earns All-SEC First Team Honors

4/23/2009 | Women's Golf

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Ole Miss senior golfer Dori Carter has been named to the All-SEC first team for the second year in a row as the 2009 conference yearly awards were announced Thursday.

“We are very proud of Dori and all that she is accomplishing this year,” head coach Michele Drinkard said.  “She is a hard worker and is a great leader for our team.  She is very deserving of this honor.  Dori has set the bar high for herself as well as for her teammates and future rebels joining our program.”

Carter is one of nine players to make the first team in a league which boasts six teams in the top 25.  The Valdosta, Ga., native becomes the first player in Ole Miss history to make the first team more than once.

“It’s nice to finish my senior year strong and make a lasting mark at Ole Miss,” Carter said.  “I’ve had a lot of success this year, especially last semester.  It’s exciting to be preparing for regionals as a team. We’re all working hard to achieve one goal.  It’s more motivation for me to have my teammates be there.”

Carter owns a team-leading 72.60 stroke average with one tournament title and four top-five finishes.   She won the Rebel Intercollegiate to capture her first career title.  Carter led the Rebels to five top-five finishes this year, including winning their first tournament title (Johnie Imes) since 2004 and their best finish in the SEC (seventh) since 1999.

The Rebels are expected to receive their first bid to NCAA Regionals since 2004. The selections will be announced Monday, April 27.
