Rebel Volleyball Completes Successful Spring Season

4/28/2009 | Volleyball

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss volleyball team recently completed its spring season and experienced a successful outing as the squad posted an 8-2 record while competing in four tournaments across the Southeast.

The Rebels opened the season with a home tournament in Oxford before hitting the road to compete at the Impact Volleyball Club tournament in Nashville as part of a 16 team event. Ole Miss then went east to Atlanta to compete at the Georgia Tech Tournament before finishing off the spring season at Rhodes College in Memphis.

“We had a tremendous spring overall as we went 8-2 in our matches,” said Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin. “Given that we only had seven players, we were very pleased with the maturation of our squad. Katie Norris really feels comfortable at the outside hitter position and Emily Kvitle did a great job of settling in at the setter position.

“Our middles, Regina Thomas and Miranda Kitts, both showed improvement, but everyone really got better. We definitely improved our blocking. Chez Colter got time at outside hitter and got more comfortable in that role. Catherine Heck and Morgan Springer did a nice job for us defensively.”

The Rebels will open the 2009 season this fall on August 28 when Ole Miss will travel to compete at the Missouri Tiger Invitational at the University of Missouri.
