4/3/2009 | Softball

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss Rebel softball team will take to the road this weekend, as they travel to Lexington, Ky., to face the Kentucky Wildcats in a three-game SEC series. The two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at noon on Saturday and finish up the three-game set with a single game on Sunday at noon.

The Rebels (16-18, 4-12 SEC) enter the weekend having won three of their last four games, including a non-conference win over Mississippi State on Wednesday. Junior All-American Lauren Grill tied a career high with two home runs in the win over the Bulldogs. Ole Miss also took two-of-three from Arkansas last weekend in Oxford.

Grill leads the team with eight homers and 24 RBI on the season and is batting .450 in her last six games. Freshman Corrine Doornberg continues to lead the team in batting with a .297 average. Junior Becky Nye has a team-best 2.42 ERA and 11 wins in 18 starts this season.

Kentucky (22-12, 5-7 SEC) enters the weekend after dropping a 5-1 contest to Louisville on Wednesday. The Wildcats are led by junior Molly Johnson, who is batting .486 in SEC action. In the circle, freshman Chanda Bell leads the team with a 15-7 record and 185 strikeouts in 137.0 innings.

“We had a great win on Wednesday against a good Mississippi State team and we need to continue that momentum into this weekend against Kentucky,” said Ole Miss head coach Missy Dickerson.

Ole Miss leads the all-time series 24-10 over Kentucky, but the Wildcats took two-of-three from the Rebels last year in Oxford.
