Rebel Netters To Graduate In Special Ceremony

“The decision made by the NCAA was very disappointing, especially for the seniors,” head coach Billy Chadwick said. “Never before has the No. 2 team in the nation not hosted. Both sets of parents had booked tickets from overseas anticipating their kids taking part in graduation.”
“We appreciate the chancellor presenting diplomas to these young men,” Athletics Director Pete Boone said. “This will be a special moment in time of which these families will cherish forever.”
ten Berge is the 2009 SEC Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the Year, a four-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He boasts a 3.97 grade point average in the Classics.
Berg is a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, as well as the Dean’s and UMAA Honor Rolls and is also a candidate for Academic All-America honors.
The duo is ranked No. 1 in the nation in doubles, while Berg is No. 16 in singles. They both earned All-SEC first team honors and led the Rebels to the SEC regular season championship going undefeated, the SEC Tournament Championship and their eighth straight SEC West title.
In addition, Berg and ten Berge have helped the Rebels capture the prestigious ITA All-Academic Team Award in 2005, 2007 and 2008 as well as the Chancellor’s Cup for the sixth year in a row this year.
