Oher, Jerry Visit With Local Media

4/30/2009 | Football

Former Ole Miss All-Americans Michael Oher and Peria Jerry, who last weekend became the first Rebel duo to be drafted in the NFL first round in the same year, were in Oxford Wednesday and took time out to visit with local media.

Peria Jerry

On Arthur Blank’s private jet:

I’ve never seen anything like it. A plane with couches it was amazing.

On what he did in Atlanta:

They just showed me and my family around. We toured the building and saw what we will be doing and where we will be eating. It is a great place to be.

On the next thing he will be doing with the Falcons:

Mini camp. I will be leaving next week sometime and I’m really looking forward to it.

On receiving the call that he got drafted:

They called me right after Mike (Oher) got selected. I don’t really even remember who called me. I was just too excited to ask a name. I was really excited.

On the Falcons’ plans for him:

I talked to all the coaches and talked to my defensive line coach. They are really expecting me to come in and play. I’ve just got to work hard, stay focused and see what happens.

On his contract:

I haven’t really talked to anyone about it. It should be coming soon.

On being back in Oxford:

We’re just working out. We’re at home working out with the guys. When they see us coming in working out, it is going to make them work harder and be even more successful for the upcoming season.

On being drafted right after Michael Oher:

It was very exciting when I heard Mike’s name called and then mine right after. I didn’t really know what to expect. I thought Jamarca (Sanford) might be next. It was crazy.

On his trip to Baltimore:

It was fun. I flew commercial. They have brand new facilities. They played in the title game last year, so it is a great team. It is a great fit for me. My family went with me and they showed us around. They were nice people and we had a good time.

On the Ravens’ plans for him:

I’ve just got to see when I get there and see where I fit in. I’ve just got to do what I do best and if I keep doing, that I will be alright.

On the media attention:

It’s a lot worse than it was. There are a lot of people calling me wanting to talk to me. You’re a pro now and you are the face of the franchise right now. They are looking for big things out of you.

On the first thing he’s going to purchase:

I don’t even know yet. I don’t even feel like I have money right now.

On his contract:

We probably won’t get that done until late July, maybe August. It all depends on what happens.

On being in the NFL:

When we get to camp we will probably realize we are in the NFL. It still feels normal right now.

On himself and Peria Jerry being drafted in the first round:

It just shows that Ole Miss is moving forward and is becoming a big-time school. Coach (Houston) Nutt is moving the team in the right direction.

On Mike Wallace and Jamarca Sanford:

They’re doing great. Everybody is excited. We are all pretty close. Mike was on ESPN First Take this morning and I talked to him. He is excited and is just having fun.

On the preseason schedule:

Our (Michael and Peria) last game is against each other. I can’t wait.

On holding Peria in the preseason game:

That’s all we do. If we aren’t holding we aren’t doing our job.
