Bittle Named SEC Pitcher Of The Week

In his second start of the season, and fifth of his career, Bittle worked a career-long 9.0 innings and fanned 13 batters without allowing a walk to help the Rebels claim an 8-0 victory over Kentucky on Sunday. In the Bianco era, all three series wins over the Wildcats whom the Rebels have not played annually have been series sweeps (2002, 2003, 2009).
The win for Bittle came in his second SEC start and continued a run of 16.0 scoreless innings pitched in conference play. The right-handed hurled 7.0 innings of scoreless ball at No. 2 LSU a week earlier and held the Tigers to one hit before leaving the game.
The Wildcats managed only three hits off Bittle and only four batters reached base, with only two advancing to second against the senior pitcher. With the performance, Bittle lowered his season ERA by a whole run per inning, going from a 3.06 ERA prior to the outing to his current ERA of 2.03 in 2009.
