Men's Golf Inks Meridian's Chad Bounds

4/8/2009 | Men's Golf

OXFORD, Miss. Chad Bounds of Meridian, Miss., has signed a letter of intent to join the Ole Miss men’s golf program, currently ranked No. 27 in Golfstat, Rebel head coach Ernest Ross announced Wednesday.  Bounds will begin his career with the Rebels in the fall of 2009.

An honor student at Lamar High School, Bounds is ranked No. 1 in Mississippi for the class of 2009 by Junior Golf Scoreboard.  He won two junior tournaments in Mississippi this past summer.

“I am proud to have Chad Bounds as a new member of the Ole Miss Golf program,” Ross said.   “I believe he will play right away, even in this toughest of golf conferences.   He will be a leader on the course and in the classroom, where he is an excellent student.  Chad works very hard on his game, and I know he will continue to improve every year.”

Bounds owns a second-place finish at the AJGA Charles Howell in Augusta, Ga., with 64-71-72- 207 (-9).  He also finished ninth at the Southern Junior at Old Waverly in West Point, Miss., in June of 2008.

Golf runs in Bound’s family, as his mom was a four-year letterwinner for the University of Alabama from 1975-78.

Bounds becomes the third signee for the 2009-10 class, joining fellow Mississippi native Thomas Watkins of Madison, and Jacksonville, Fla., native Pete Kellermann, who both signed in the fall.

The Rebels are coming off a fourth place finish at the Reunion Intercollegiate Tuesday at Reunion Country Club in Madison.  Their next action will be April 17-19 at the SEC Championship in Sea Island, Ga.
