4/9/2009 | Women's Tennis

OXFORD, Miss. The 28th-ranked Ole Miss women’s tennis team will host a pair of top 20 teams this weekend at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.  Friday, the Rebels will welcome No. 16 LSU at 3 p.m.

Fans coming to Friday’s match will enjoy free chicken compliments of Bofields, and admission is free.

“This is a big weekend for us,” head coach Mark Beyers said.  “We are hosting two top 20 teams with a chance to move into the top 25 in the rankings.  We’ve been successful at home this season, and we want to encourage fans to come out and support the team and give us that home court advantage.”

The Rebels are 6-1 at home this season, including wins over then No. 16 Alabama and No. 14 Florida.  The SEC boasts 11 teams in the top 30 in the latest Campbell/ITA Rankings released Tuesday.

Ole Miss (10-7, 3-5) is led by freshman Kristi Boxx, who is ranked No. 29 with a 10-2 record at No. 1 singles, 6-2 in the SEC.  She will have the opportunity this weekend for some more big wins when she faces the nation’s No. 5 and 17 ranked players.

LSU comes into the weekend at 13-6 overall, 3-4 in the SEC.  They are coming off wins over Florida and South Carolina last weekend.  The Tigers are led by 17th-ranked Megan Falcon, the 2007 SEC Player of the Year.

On Sunday, the Rebels will host No. 14 Arkansas at 1 p.m.   The Razorbacks enter the weekend at 10-6 overall and leading the SEC West at 5-3.  They are led by fifth-ranked Aurelija Miseviciute.  Ole Miss defeated the Razorbacks 4-3 last year in Fayetteville.
