Two Rebels Qualify For NCAA Championships At MidEast Regional

LOUISVILLE, Ky. Derek McGuire and Colin Moleton both qualified for the upcoming NCAA Championships finished in the top-5 of their respective events on the first day of the MidEast Regional Friday afternoon from Cardinal Park. 

 

McGuire automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in the shot put after placing second with a school record distance of 59-10.25.  He surpassed the previous school record of 59-04.25 he set earlier in the year at the Mississippi Open. 

 

Moleton took third place in the javelin throw with a school record distance of 226-00.00 to automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships.  His mark broke the previous school record of 211-11.00 he set earlier in the year at the Ole Miss Invitational.  Fellow junior Bryce Willen finished sixth in the event with a mark of 220-02.00 to record the second furthest distance in school history. 

 

In the 400 meter hurdle preliminaries, the Rebels featured a pair of competitors who qualified for the finals Saturday at 4:50 p.m. (CT).  Sophomore Lee Ellis Moore took second with a time of 50.95, while freshman Carson Blanks finished in fifth place with a time of 51.28. 

 

The men's team enters the final day of the meet tied with host Louisville for second place with 17 points.   

 

LaJada Baldwin finished in first place for the women’s team in the 400 meter preliminaries with a time of 52.92.  She will take part in the finals Saturday at 4:15 p.m.

 

Sophomore Sofie Persson qualified for the final in the 400 meter hurdles as she placed second in the preliminaries with a time of 58.41.  Persson will compete in the finals Saturday afternoon at 4:40 p.m. 

 

The Ole Miss 4x100 meter relay team comprised of Kadeshia Fortune, Baldwin, Dacus and Kristin Bridges placed seventh in the preliminaries with a time of 45.74 to reach the finals scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m. 

 

The second and final day of the NCAA MidEast Regional begins Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with the women’s javelin throw.
