WESTERN KENTUCKY
WKU improved to 5-7 all-time in NCAA Tournament games. The Hilltoppers advanced to play Ole Miss at 5:00 this evening.
According to WKU records, the Hilltoppers are now 3-0 all-time versus Missouri. WKU records show that the two teams played a game in 1981, which the Hilltoppers won 5-4. The Toppers won the teams' first meeting in this regional, 11-5.
WKU improved to 25-0 this season when scoring 10 or more runs in a game.
The Hilltoppers' 526 runs scored this season eclipsed the previous school record of 518 set in 1988.
A stolen base by junior 3B Wade Gaynor gave him 20 for the season, making him the first player in school history to record 20+ home runs (23) and 20+ steals in a season.
Senior RF (and Oxford native) Chad Cregar tied career highs with 4 runs and 4 hits in the contest, while his 5 RBI tied a season high.
Senior SS Terrence Dayleg went 3-for-4 with a career high-tying 5 RBI in the contest to improve his numbers for the weekend to 8-for-13 with 5 RBI and 3 runs scored. In two games against Missouri, he is 7-for-9 with 5 RBI and 3 runs.
MISSOURI
Missouri fell to 42-44 all-time in NCAA Tournament play. The Tigers were eliminated from the 2009 NCAA Oxford Regional, going 1-2.
Missouri records indicate that this was just the second meeting between the two teams and the Tigers are now 0-2 versus Western Kentucky, with both games coming in this regional.
In three games during the regional, junior LF Aaron Senne went 6-for-12 with 7 RBI and 4 runs scored.
In three games during the regional, senior 3B Kyle Mach went 7-for-14 with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored.
