Snyder Named SEC Co-Freshman Of The Week

5/4/2009 | Baseball

OXFORD, Miss. Freshman infielder Matt Snyder has been named Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week after helping the Rebels to a sweep of Auburn, the league office announced on Monday.

Snyder was instrumental in the Rebels posting a 4-1 record on the week and sweeping the Auburn Tigers in conference play over the weekend. The sweep of Auburn was the first SEC road sweep for the Rebels since the 2006 season when Ole Miss swept Georgia in Athens.

The sweep helped push the Rebels into a tie for first place in the Southeastern Conference overall standings and Western Division race.

Snyder hit .600 for the week as he went 9-for-15 with a home run, four runs scored and five RBI. He posted multiple hits in all three starts and came up with a solo home run in his pinch-hit appearance against Auburn on Saturday.

The freshman from Centreville, Va., was 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored against UAPB before going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. On Sunday he was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Snyder and the Rebels have the week off before hosting Mississippi State in a three-game series this weekend at Oxford-University Stadium. First pitch on Friday is set for 6:30 p.m., while Saturday’s game is set for 3:00 p.m. and Sunday is a 1:30 p.m. start.
